ANNA BIAVATI
Specialist Speech & Language Therapist for children
Selective Mutism specialization
My name is Anna Biavati, and I am a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist based in Scotland.
Through my practice, Steps to Brave Talking Therapy and Support, I help children with Selective Mutism, anxiety, and communication challenges – and I guide their families in building safety, trust, and connection. I work with families worldwide online.
I graduated as a Speech and Language Therapist from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh in 2002, after completing an MSc in Science of Education in 1996. For 13 years I worked in the NHS, where I ran a speech and language therapy clinic and supported children with a wide range of communication needs. In 2014 I moved into independent practice to create a more holistic, family-centred approach that brings together the brain, the body, and relationships.
I am also a proud mother of two, and my children constantly inspire me and remind me of the importance of connection in every interaction. My personal journey as a parent deeply influences my work with families, helping me bring warmth, empathy, and practical strategies to each child I support.
Being fluent in English and Italian, with a good knowledge of Spanish and French, I am able to work bilingually when needed and to better understand the unique challenges of multilingual families.
My mission is simple: to empower families to unlock their child’s voice by creating safety first, then building confidence step by step.
My technical skills
I’m MA Hons BSc MRCSLT MHCPC MASALTIP
Specialist Speech & Language Therapist for children and adults
My particular interests are:
In 2013 I founded the Scottish Selective Mutism Group and I regularly provide seminars and support parents and professionals.
I have delivered therapy for children across a variety of settings including community clinics, hospitals, schools, and nurseries, as well as managing caseloads as part of a multi-disciplinary pediatric team.
I can help you and your child with Selective Mutism (or speech and sounds disorder) in Edinburgh as I have a lovely therapy room where you can come and feel relaxed with your child, and my aim is to play and make your child feel at home because this will help your child find it easier to transfer skills they were learning in therapy.
I have extensive experience in providing staff group training on Speech and Language development to organisations, schools, nurseries, and other healthcare professionals.
