Brave Muscle Clinical Circle

Specialist clinical supervision for therapists supporting selective mutism

If you are a therapist supporting children or young people with selective mutism and anxiety-based communication difficulties, you may already know the theory.

You may know the strategies. And yet sometimes you still find yourself thinking:

  • “Why are we stuck?”
  • “Am I missing something?”
  • “Where do I go next?”

The Brave Muscle Clinical Circle is a small, specialist clinical space where therapists can bring real cases, ask questions, reflect and think things through together.

Because sometimes we don’t need another strategy.

We need the space to slow down and look underneath.

  • What is happening for this child?
  • What is their nervous system telling us? Where is safety and where might it be missing?
  • What is happening within the family, school or wider environment?
  • Are we expecting communication before the child is ready?
  • What might this child need from us next?

What happens inside the Clinical Circle?

Each 90-minute live Clinical Circle includes:

  • Anna’s Clinical Lens: a short specialist teaching or reflection around an aspect of selective mutism, anxiety, the nervous system or clinical practice real, fully anonymised case discussions
  • Clinical reasoning around complex or “stuck” cases
  • Practical ideas and possible next steps questions, reflection and shared learning with other therapists

This is not another webinar. And it isn’t a place where you need to arrive with all the answers.

It is a small clinical space where it is absolutely OK to say: “I’m not sure what to do next. Can we think about this together?”

A different kind of professional support

So much professional development gives us more information. But the difficult part often comes afterwards:

How do I apply this to the child actually sitting in front of me?

  • Every child is different.
  • Families are different.
  • Schools are different.
  • This strategy makes perfect sense on paper, but simply isn’t moving things forward.

The Clinical Circle gives you somewhere to bring those moments.

Not to be told that there is one “correct” answer, but to look at the whole picture and strengthen your own clinical reasoning.

How does it work?

The Brave Muscle Clinical Circle takes place at three points across the year: Autumn, Winter and Spring.

For each seasonal Clinical Circle, I offer two sessions, one at lunchtime and one in the early evening, giving therapists two opportunities to join.

Each Circle is:

  • 90 minutes live on Zoom
  • Maximum 8 therapists
  • £47 per Clinical Circle

There is no subscription and no ongoing commitment.

When a new Clinical Circle is announced, you simply choose whether that particular date works for you and book your place.

You may come to one Circle, return throughout the year, or simply book when you have a case or clinical question you would particularly value thinking through with others.

Why only 8 therapists?

Because I want this to remain a genuine clinical conversation.

With a maximum of eight clinicians, there is time to ask questions, explore cases properly and hear different perspectives.

You won’t be sitting anonymously amongst dozens of people watching another presentation. You will be part of the discussion.

Who is the Clinical Circle for?

The Clinical Circle is for therapists and clinicians supporting children and young people with: selective mutism anxiety-based communication difficulties complex or entrenched communication shutdown neurodivergent presentations where anxiety and communication overlap

It may be particularly helpful if you:

  • know the theory but sometimes struggle to translate it into real-life clinical decisions have a child who seems “stuck”
  • find yourself wondering whether you are asking too much — or perhaps not enough
  • want to look beyond speech and understand what may be happening underneath
  • want to develop your thinking around the nervous system, safety, relationships, family and school systems
  • don’t have another specialist clinician readily available to discuss cases with
  • simply value thoughtful, reflective clinical conversation with other therapists

You do not need to be a selective mutism specialist.

You just need to be a professional supporting children or young people where anxiety and communication are part of the clinical picture.

About Anna

I’m Anna Biavati, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and creator of the Brave Muscle Method. After more than 20 years supporting children, families and schools, one of the biggest changes in my own clinical practice has been learning not to immediately ask:

“What strategy should I try next?”

Instead, I ask:

“What haven’t I understood yet?”

That means looking at the child as a whole, their nervous system, relationships, environment, experiences, expectations and communication before deciding what the next therapeutic step should be.

The Clinical Circle grew from conversations I’ve been having with other therapists who know a great deal already, but sometimes simply need somewhere specialist to stop, reflect and think. That is what I want this space to provide.
