Selective Mutism: Become a Therapist

For many therapists, working with selective mutism can feel overwhelming.
You understand anxiety. You understand communication.
Yet something still feels missing when a child knows the words but cannot access them.

Over the years, my work has shown me this clearly:
speech does not return through pressure, prompting, or techniques alone.
It returns when the brain and body feel safe enough.

This is why I am developing a new training course for professionals based on the Brain Muscle Method—a practical, neuro-informed approach designed specifically for therapists supporting children with selective mutism and high anxiety.

The method focuses on:

  • Understanding how anxiety lives in the body and nervous system
  • Working before speech, not forcing speech
  • Using regulation, sensory safety, movement, and connection
  • Supporting the therapist–child–family relationship, not just the child
  • Helping therapists feel confident, calm, and grounded in complex cases

This course is being designed for:

  • Speech and language therapists
  • Psychologists
  • Counsellors and psychotherapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Other professionals working with anxious or selectively mute children

At this stage, I am gathering expressions of interest from therapists who would like:

  • Early access information
  • Input into the course focus
  • Updates when enrolment opens

If this resonates with your work and values, I’d love to hear from you.

👉 Please email your interest to:
support@stepstobravetalking.com

Simply let us know:

  • Your professional background
  • Who you currently work with
  • What you find most challenging about selective mutism cases

This course is not about fixing children.
It’s about helping therapists work with the brain, not against it.
