ANNA BIAVATI Selective Mutism Support UK

Specialist Speech & Language Therapy, Parent Support & Professional Training

Welcome to Selective Mutism Support UK.

I support parents of children and teens who speak freely at home but struggle to use their voice in school, social settings, or unfamiliar environments.

I also train therapists and professionals who want to work more effectively with selective mutism.

Whether you are a parent looking for guidance, or a professional seeking specialist training, you are not alone and support can make a difference.

Is your child extremely shy, anxious, or struggling to speak in certain situations?

If you’re worried about your child’s confidence, anxiety, or communication, start by completing the questionnaire.

I will review your concerns, help you understand what may be behind your child’s shyness or anxiety, and guide you through clear next steps  including whether speech and language therapy or anxiety-based support may be helpful.

The Steps to Brave Talking Method for Selective Mutism Therapy

My Support

I’m a Speech and Language Therapist,

My work focuses on safety before speech for children and for the adults supporting them.

I do not push, bribe, or force talking.
Instead, I help the brain and body feel safe enough for communication to emerge naturally.

My approach integrates:

  • Specialist speech & language therapy

  • Nervous system regulation and emotional safety

  • Movement, play, and relational connection

  • Parent coaching and professional mentoring

This approach is especially helpful for children who have not responded well to traditional strategies and for professionals who feel stuck or unsure how to proceed.

My Method

My work is grounded in the Brave Muscle Method, a child-led, brain-based approach that recognises that courage is not a personality trait it is a skill that grows with safety, trust, and regulation.

The Brave Muscle Method supports:

  • Reduced anxiety and shutdown responses

  • Gradual confidence building through achievable steps

  • Communication without pressure or coercion

  • A deeper understanding of how anxiety lives in the body

Progress often appears first as:

  • Increased participation and presence

  • Greater emotional regulation

  • Willingness to engage socially

  • Communication readiness — before speech

And that is meaningful progress.

Mentoring and supervision for therapists

Contact me for my step by step approach for supporting parents, carers and professionals.

Supporting children with selective mutism (SM) is complex.

Speech therapists need special skills and careful ways to help. I think supervision is really important for therapists working with kids with SM. It helps them learn better ways to help and grow professionally.

During the supervision calls, I want to offer a place for therapists to address their own countertransference and emotional reactions when working with clients with SM.
